Political corruption is getting massive in Indonesia. A graft case of 41 of 45 Malang city council members showed that Indonesia confronts a moral and ethical crisis. The circumstance was inextricable from roles of political party elites, bureaucracy, and private sectors that 100 citizens control 55 percent of the country’s wealth.
At a public lecture on ‘Going to Presidential Election 2019: Building Developed Political Civilization’ on Saturday (29/9) at Amphitheater of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Dr. Muhammad Busyro Muqoddas, S.H., M.Hum. stated that political corruption in Indonesia occurred in infrastructure development and procurement of goods and services for national and regional development.
Delivering a lecture to graduate students of academic year 2018/2019, Busyro declared, “The political corruption is by design as Raperda/Perda, RUU, UU and policy was corruptible and money politics often happen in regional head elections and general elections. The conditions can eradicate constitution morality and law enforcement in Indonesia,” he asserted.
The worst political and democratic corruption was in the form of a practical system of ‘ngijon’, “For instance, 41 of 45 Malang city council members was implicated in a corruption case. Besides, corruption systems, structures, and classification of national and regional bureaucracies also occurred as cases in 2018 that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named 97 regional heads as suspects of corruption of APBD/P, Otonomi Khususi, infrastructures, RT/RW permits, and mining,” mentioned Busyro, a former chairman of the KPK in the era of President of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2010-2011.
In addition, the Indonesian political system drives people enslaved by lust of power so that they do everything to achieve their ambitions. Thus, Busyro emphasized that graduate students of UMY should refrain themselves from the power lust.
“Responsibility of educated people since knowledge can be a disaster if it does not have quality such as alignment quality. Indeed, many people do not practice their knowledge because they are only interested in reaching their ambitions (which is not in line their study, ed.),” stressed Busyro, who is also a lecturer at Universitas Islam Indonesia.
Busyro told that political actors should possess strong principles so that they could carry out their duties and avoid infringements. Surah of Al Ma’un and Al Balad can be bases as political development civilization in Indonesia has lost essentially religious, social, and humanity values.
Meanwhile, Busyro recommended Graduate School of UMY to remain offering courses to embody developed political civilization. “It is essential to revitalize higher education within national political development orientation. It is vital to provide courses of Ideologi Pembangunan Keadilan Sosial and Analysis of Manhaj Gerakan Muhammadiyah,” he suggested.
