National consolidation of Muhammadiyah was conducted on Sunday (22/5) at A.R. Fachruddin A of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). It was the first consolidation after the 47th congress of Muhammadiyah. It was attended chairperson of Muhammadiyah, chairperson of Aisyiyah, Muhammadiyah’s officials, representatives of Muhammadiyah-affiliated universities, and former boards of Muhammadiyah. The consolidation focused on formulating five-year vision, mission, and programs decided in the 47th congress of Muhammadiyah.
The increasing of people’s trust to Muhammadiyah impacts Muhammadiyah’s roles on the development of Indonesia. Thus, Muhammadiyah should possess the same vision and mission to contribute to the development.
Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si informed that the consolidation has been arranged after the 47th Muhammadiyah Congress. “When representatives of Muhammadiyah met President of Indonesia Ir. Joko Widodo, the consolidation has been proposed for wider interests,” he told.
He conveyed that National Convention for the Betterment of Indonesia (KNIB) was organized in the right moment since Indonesia has recently encountered a number of issues such as communism; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT), and terrorism that Mihammadiyah advocated Siyono. Haedar argued that the issue of Siyono is not simple so that Muhammadiyah attempted to reinforce the roles as an ‘amar ma’ruf mahi munkar’ organization.
“If we are not smart as well as wise, and we do not depend on Muhammadiyah so that there are only two choices: withdrawing due to diverse regime or taking over and having pragmatic behavior as what political parties perform,” Haedar emphasized. Haedar claimed it has been right that Muhammadiyah has opposed political interests. Muhammadiyah cannot be separated by the political interest.
