Nursing Sciences Lecturers of UMY Participated on International Course on Laboratory Animal Science in Malaysia

Two lecturers of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY)’s Nursing Sciences Program (PSIK) had the opportunity to participate in the International Course on Laboratory Animal Science, Malaysia 2019: FELASA Category B (MICLAS) hosted by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Molecular and Cellular Biology Research Cluster (iMoleC), IIUM. This program is a result of iMoleC collaboration with the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA) and Laboratory Animal Ltd. This event took place from 19 to 30 August 2019 and was attended by 25 participants from Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Malaysia.

Nurvita Risdiana, Ns., M.Sc and Syahruramdhani, Ns., MSN. are the lecturers who took part in that activity. Nurvita explained that this event is one of the commitments between UMY and IIUM in animal model research development. This was a very open opportunity for UMY lecturers to collaborate with lecturers and researchers in the various research centers there. Hopefully, UMY can produce excellent research on the international level.

“The event was one of our steps to increase research quality and help create excellent international works,” Nurvita stated when contacted by the UMY Office of Human Relations and Protocol on Saturday (7/9).

Nurvita also stated that during the two weeks in Malaysia, they performed a lot of activities such as public lectures, group presentations, tests, and practices in animal laboratories. The experts who are involved in the activities were also from many countries. The materials and practices in the event were varied, including introduction animal lobaratory science, animal handling and restrain, genetic standardization, human endpoints, breeding laboratory animal and euthanasia.

“The speakers in this event were professors and lecturers from countries such as the Netherlands, India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia,” she added. (ak)
