Caring of HIV/AIDS, Students of UMY Organize VTC

HIV/AIDS has spread rapidly and it is worried the number of sufferers would elevate because of nowadays free life styles. Moreover, the virus could be spread through not only free sex but also many ways such as blood transfusion and using a needle alternately. This condition underlay an institution of Jari Mulia of UMY to organize Voluntary Counseling and Test (VCT) as their care of coping with HIV/AIDS.

Lutfi Trisna Oktaningroom, a Medical student of UMY, acted as the project manager of Jari Mulia Caring of HIV/AIDS. The event was named “Jari Mulia HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Get Tested, Get Donated’, and was conducted on Thursday (21/5). She stated that the event aimed finding out the disease as early as possible and it was also as a way to overcome the disease itself.

The event compassed of counseling and giving medicine to diminish the disease even though, according to Luthfi, the HIV/AIDS has not had medicine yet to heal. Nevertheless, public would recognize earlier whether or not they get the disease.

“The event is actually to assist people to notice the disease earlier. We would like to reduce impacts of the disease since it has not had the healer yet. Thus, we attempt to help by providing medicine to alleviate the impact,” asserted Luthfi.

Furthermore, it was an annual event of Jari Mulia, Luthfi continued, and was a responsibility of prospective medical workers for assisting public, particularly HIV/AIDS sufferers. The annual event was undertaken in Medical Lobby, Building C, UMY. It was cooperated with the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) as the observer of HIV/AIDS and it was also supported by professional medical workers from Puskesmas (local government clinic) of Mantri Jeron. Attending the VTC were academicians of UMY and public.
