Pharmacy Students of UMY Conducts a Bazaar of Pharmacy Innovation Products

Pharmacy Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) prepares the students to be not only pharmacists but also entrepreneurs. The department party conducted a Bazaar of Pharmacy Innovation Products on Wednesday (30/12) at Plaza Bintang of UMY. The products sold in the bazaar were the pharmacy students’ creation like cosmetics and aromatherapy products.

Paramitha Esha N.D., M.Sc., Apt., a lecturer of Block of Innovation Product and Pharmacy Entrepreneurship informed that the students has been required to formulate beauty and aromatherapy products since December. “Students were divided into 12 groups that each group was supervised by a lecturer, and the lecture also has to test the safety of the products,” Paramita stated. Students also reframed existing products by changing or adding several compounds.

“The products must be safe since they have been examined and approved by the supervisors,” Paramita convinced. She expected that, through the bazaar, students can be more innovative to formulate cosmetics and can develop the products. The bazaar brought positive impacts because the students practiced how to make safe cosmetics and aromatherapy.

The student welcomed the event. One of the committee, Indah Mutiara, conveyed that students were required to coin innovation products with little budget but the products could make a lot of benefits. “Besides consulting how to formulate the products, we also learned marketing and how to make turnover,” told Indah who is a Pharmacy student of batch 2012.

Indah inserted, “One of the benefits of learning entrepreneurship is that we will not be worried about what we are going to do after graduating. Besides being pharmacists, we can develop products what we have made or can focus on entrepreneurship as well.”

Additionally, the bazaar was undertaken for two days that the first day was on Tuesday (29/12) and it was organized at Lobby C, Medical Faculty. The products sold in the bazaar were hair fragrances, air fresheners, vintage scrub, facial mask, dry shampoo, aromatherapy candles, and others. “The products have been consulted to the supervisors, and they are safe since it has been examined at laboratory,” Indah ended.
