Plagiarism Remains Existing in Indonesian Fashion Development

Indonesian fashion has been quite concerning, particularly dealing with plagiarism. Noticing the fact, Warung Prancis of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted Camp du Luvre ‘Mode and Societte’ 2018 to educate people about fashion, especially how to a design can be created and have a value before public relishes it. The camp was organized on the floor 2 of Building D on Wednesday (19/12). It also was firstly held by Warung Prancis of UMY to promote one of the French icons, namely fashion.

Director of Warung Prancis of UMY as well as a lecturer at Department of English Language Education of UMY Puthut Ardianto declared that creative designers can coin a product possessing high prestige so that it can be marketed. Besides, he also presented fashion development Indonesia.

“It comments my success of drawing designs of clothes, putting them on fabrics, and becoming a signature. Jumputan, utilizing tie-dye techniques, is a characteristic of my design. My design has not existed previously because I try to imitate craftsmen and create my own design. I have started it since 2010,” told Puthut, who is also an owner of Lemospires products.

Puthut added that Indonesian fashion is not entirely free from plagiarism. “Fashion plagiarism is not inextricable. For instance, it is sad that Government of Yogyakarta City launched batik of Segoro Amarto, but printed batik existed in the following month. However, the plagiarists were subpoenaed since the batik has copyright,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Riris Avilla, an owner product of Avilla, focusing on eco-print batik also shared her experience at the camp.
