Postgraduate Program for Enhancing Students’ Dynamism and Maturity

Postgraduate program in each university is not established without any aim. It is a place where students’ dynamism and maturity could be developed and educated so that they would be tough and ready to behave and make decision. Additionally, the success of a postgraduate alumnus could be one of the keys for a nation development.

Vice President of Republic of Indonesia H.M. Jusuf Kalla delivered an advice on an official announcement of Postgraduate Building – Jusuf Kalla School of Government (JKSG) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta on Saturday (7/3). He told that without postgraduate program scholars could not move dynamically, neither could their knowledge since sciences and this world always go hand in glove dynamically. “Postgraduate is a place for scholars to enhance the maturity of thinking, sciences, and research. That should be carried out by all postgraduate programs, wherever they are,” he asserted.

Jusuf Kalla expected through the official announcement Postgraduate of UMY could develop. Moreover, there is a featured program of postgraduate UMY namely Jusuf Kalla School of Government (JKSG). The program was established by UMY as appreciation for Jusuf Kalla’s dedication and effort to foster governmental system of Indonesia. It was also inspired by his vision in development, leadership, and conflict resolution. “I am thankful for developing this JKSG. It is my moral responsibility and turns an essential thought, particularly in governmental issues of this state,” he conveyed.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla also wished that the postgraduate and JK School of Government could be media for the development of Indonesia. JK argued that all people have expectation of state development that relies on quality of its community and young generation. “Thus, educational improvement is a crucial aspect. Learning from country development, many countries are developed because of their wealth or generation. Nevertheless, there are developing countries as well. All developed countries have great passion and full of knowledge. Those two aspects are the keys of a nation development,” he uttered.

The same idea was also stated by Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X. The existence of postgraduate, moreover JK School of Government, is expected to bear bureaucratic apparatus who could authentically implement clear and good government, and would not be nonsense. Alumni of postgraduate and JKSG are hoped to be able to integrate Ahmad Dahlan’s thought as Muhammadiyah’s founder and Jusuf Kalla’s idea. “If K.H. Ahmad Dahlan advised ‘to be progressive students’, these programs should be able to create skilled and characterized graduates. They should be able to apply Jusuf Kalla’s thought faster and better every overcoming issues and challenges,” told the Governor of DIY.

Sri Sultan HB X quoted Mahatma Gandhi that uncharacterized education should not exist since the educational finale is coining characterized and civilized human beings. “Thus, we have to dare against modern trend which put others down. In fact, educational world is huge for sciences. Yet, we could not overlook morals and culture of education because each educational institution ought to maintain teaching morals and culture,” he told.

The official announcement of Postgraduate Building – Jusuf Kalla School of Governemtn (JKSG) of UMY was also attended by national figures such as Dr. Malik Fajar and Prof. Syafi’I Ma’arif, Chief of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah of Regional level across Yogyakarta, representatives of SKPD 1 and SKPD of university representatives, representatives of Muhammadiyah-affiliated universities, and student association representatives, and academicians of UMY.
