Protocol Affairs of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted training of Master of Ceremony (MC) for staffs of UMY on Thursday (25/2) at Building E.4, floor 1. The training was organized since it is argued that MC has an essential role in an event, and a good MC exists due to having a lot of practice.
The speaker of training was Jack Haryanto, a chairperson of Protocol Affairs of University of Gadjah Mada. He talked about how to be a successful MC. “There are three kinds of an event, namely formal, semi-formal, and informal event. The formal event is like a statehood event or official inauguration,” Jack stated. He also mentioned the vital aspects of being a MC are to have a lot of occasions to be a MC, to have more exercises, to focus on the performance, and to evaluate it.
Jack emphasized that an MC should have broad knowledge and should be communicative. She also should be patient in handling an event. “MC may not get panic if the committee does. She should be able to anticipate any condition. If it occurs to senior MC, it does not matter, but if it happens to a new MC, she/he should be accompanied,” he told.
Being a MC does not need a good voice, but should have clear voice. Jack reminded that being a MC should be punctual, and her appearance should be in line with the event. “A MC ought to attend an hour before the event begins since she has to check all preparation of the event. The MC functions to open the first 30 minutes. If the opening is good, the event will run well,” he conveyed.
Additionally, the training was attended by 20 staffs of UMY. After giving the training, Jack provided an occasion for each participant to be like a MC, and he evaluated them. The training was expected to create new MCs among staffs of UMY.
