Rector Inaugurates the ‘UMY Sehat’ Program on the Family Day

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted the Family Day on Sunday (8/4) to commemorate the 37th anniversary. The annual event was organized for the staffs and their family.

The Family Day began with the fun bike followed by UMY’s leaderships, staffs and their family at 6.30 a.m. Afterwards, Rector of UMY officially inaugurated the ‘UMY Sehat’ (UMY Health) program. “Thirty to fifty years ago, diseases are caused by bacteria, viruses, or poor sanitation. However, an unhealthy lifestyle is the main cause of the illnesses such as heart diseases and high cholesterol. Thus, UMY tries to renew sports facilities in order to be accessible for all of the academicians,” declared Gunawan.

“Besides the renewal of the sport facilities as the sports center and football field in the north area of this university, we would like to construct small sports areas such as a 3-on-3 basketball court and jogging track extension. Dealing with the UMY Sehat program, we will organize the fun bike every week. The program aims to maintain our health so that we can give our best performance during working,” told Gunawan. Additionally, together with the chief of the anniversary commemoration Ir. Tony Khristanto Hariadi, M.T., the Rector of UMY symbolically handed over groceries to people living near UMY.

On the Family Day there were also several competitions such as fishing, drawing for children, karaoke, lucky dip, and many others. Besides, the winners of UMY Idol for both staff and student categories were announced. The Family Day was expected to reinforce relationship among academicians of UMY.
