Rector of UMY Expects that Community Service in 3T Areas Is Expanded

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) has conducted community service in 3T (the frontier, outermost, and remote) areas since 2014 and the number of students joining the community service increases each year. The information was delivered by Rector of UMY Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. at CRS BSM for the 3T Community Service Program Management and Program Funding at Masjid K.H. Ahmad Dahlan of UMY on Friday (27/4). The event was also attended by Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Dr. Sukamta, S.T., M.T., Vice Rector for Finance and Asset Resources, Dr. Suryo Pratolo, M.Si., Ak., CA., AAP-A, Head of LP3M. Ir. Gatot Supangkat, M.P. and student representatives for the 3T community service.

Gunawan stated that the 3T community service has been undertaken in Sebatik, Lombok – NTT, Papua, and Berau. “This is the fourth year for Sebatik and the third year for NTT,” he told. There are seven 3T areas for the community service, namely Sebatik (Kalimantan Utara), Berau (Kalimantan Timur), NTT (Sebi Rampas and areas near Timor Leste), NTB (Sebalun, Lombok), Kokoda (Papua) and Sumbawa.

He conveyed that the 3T community service is the implementation of three principles of higher education (tri dharma perguruan tinggi). During the service, students will perceive atmosphere living in the areas. “We got a lot of information from supervisors of the 3T community service. The experience, feel, and see obsolete areas, particularly education,” told Gunawan. He expected the 3T community service can be expanded in other 3T areas.

Meanwhile, a representative of Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSM) Sukma Dwie Priardi said, “We have a number of partner universities, and UMY is one of them developing rapidly.”

Sukma maintained that UMY has created a lot of innovations which cannot be found in other partners, and he wished that other institutions can follow UMY. “We would like to contribute and collaborate with all of UMY activities, particularly in educational fields,” he uttered.
