Rector of UMY Rewards Two International Journals of Faculty of Agriculture of UMY

Rector of Universitas Muhammdiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. rewarded Faculty of Agriculture of UMY since their two journals, Agraris and Planta Tropika, are accredited ‘B’. The reward was given on Friday (6/4).

Gunawan stated that a lecturer should be able to implement Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (the Three Principles of Higher Education), namely education and teaching, research and development, and community service. “UMY appreciates lecturers conducting research since it is one of the three principles of higher education,” he declared. UMY awards a prize of 25 million rupiahs for each journal.

Dean of Faculty of Agriculture of UMY Indira Prabasari told that she was delighted even though the process to gain the accreditation took long time and was exhausting. “The Planta Tropika journal was accredited, but there was a new regulation so that we had to propose reaccreditation. The regulation was dealing with the Open Journal System (OJS), while our journal management was conventional so that we should shift it into the online system taking much time and needing a lot of endeavors,” she said.

The number of Decree (SK) was issued in October 2017 by the Ministry of Research and Technology for Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti), but Indira’s party achieved the decree in January 2018.

Meanwhile, one of the lecturers of Faculty of Agriculture of UMY as well as the journal team declared that the process has not ended yet. “Although the journals have attained accreditation, they should be indexed by Scopus,” he emphasized.

Both journals can be accessed online on doaj.org and journal.umy.ac.id.
