RIP a Legend of UMY

A big family of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) mourned. A founder, leader and legend of UMY Ir. H.M. Dasron Hamid, M.Sc. passed away on Friday (24/4) in a hospital of PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Unit II Gamping, Sleman. His duties to carry out mandates of UMY ended. Yet, it would always linger on mind of academicians of UMY his model, attitude as a trusted and good leader, honesty, skills to always preserve relationship with all people, and personality.

Ir. H.M. Dasron Hamid, M.Sc. contributed to the establishment of UMY. His action of developing UMY would be never overlooked. Even though he was “a novice” of Tim Tujuh (the seven-member team) of UMY’s initiation, namely Musthofa Kamal Pasha, Muhadi SH, Humam Zainal SH, Darwin Harsono, Fahmi Muqoddas, Abdullah Effendi, and Alfian Darmawan, his dedication was profound.

Mr. Dasron devoted his life for Muhammadiyah, UMY, and sport. He was active as an organizer and leader of Muhammadiyah and UMY, and fostered football in Yogyakarta such as Mataram Indonesian Football Association (PSIM). He was also a chief of committee of Indonesian National Sports Council (KONI) DIY. Moreover, his last position or responsibility was Head of Daily Advisor Board of UMY and Treasure of Committee of Muhammadiyah the 47th Muhammadiyah Congress which would be organized in August 2015 in Makassar.

On the other hand, God has the other plan, in the age of 75 Mr. Dasron should leave all his duties. His demi left sadness for his family, a big family of Muhammadiyah, academicians of UMY, and KONI DIY. Academicians of UMY were shocked to hear the passing away of the legend of UMY. According to Vice Chancellor I of UMY Dr. Gunawan Budiyanto M.P., Mr. Dasron texted all committee of Muhammadiyah congress in the morning. “But, he looked feeling unwell in the afternoon,” he told.

Gunawan stated that Mr. Dasron had enormous contribution to developing UMY. He started cooperating with a lot of parties such as mass media, domestic and overseas universities till he brought UMY to be one of the best five state or private higher educations in DIY. “He had been contributed much since UMY had a small building in Wirobrajan until UMY became huge and had a united building/area in Tamantirto, Kasihan, Bantul,” he asserted. Mr. Dasron was a Rector of UMY for three periods which his last period was in 2008-2012.

Mr. Dasron brother’s Zembi Nurhastojati conveyed that Mr. Dasron had a surgery of gall stone because he got calculus disease. Before he passed away, he had also had a surgery and the doctor said his condition was getting better. “The surgery was accomplished and he was getting better, but suddenly his condition got down. It was Allah’s will. Then, at 7 pm he passed away,” he expressed.

Mr. Dasron was one of the public figures in Yogyakarta. He was the tenth child of eleven children. His father was H. Abdul Hamid BKN (Bin Kartowirono) who was also an activist of Muhammadiyah, well known as AB-3 which referred to an official car of Head of DPRD, was equal to an official car AB-1 of Sri Sultan HB IX, and AB-2 of KPGG Paku Alaman, AB-2. Besides, his mother was Siti Mariyah Binti H. A. Abdulsamad, a housewife, who bore 11 children: 5 sons and 6 daughters.

Mr. Dasron’s wife Dwi Nurhayati had passed away on Thursday, 23 January 2014. They had five daughters and five grandchildren. They were Siska Nur Asyraf (the first daughter), Aussie Nur Rahmania (the second daughter), Okkie Nur Hamida (the third daughter), Cannia Nur Ramadhiani (the forth daughter), and Rizki Nur Agustina (the fifth daughter).
