Student Regiment (Menwa) SAT-017 of UMY conducted a blood donation at the college. The social activity was for celebrating National Defense Day (HBN) on the 19th of December each year.
The chief, Wirra Primaldi, said that his party consciously created the celebration by a blood donation since he argued that defending the nation could be proven through a simple action like giving blood for others.
It was adequately high the enthusiasm of academicians of UMY for donating their blood. The committee, the student of Economic Islamic Banking continued, targeted eighty bags till 2 pm, but he believed that the number of bags would be more than the target.
“The target is about 80 bags, but it might be more than the target, because it is 11.30 am now, and it has already been 75 bags,” stated Wira during the blood donation held in a polyclinic of UMY on Friday (19/12).
He admitted that the celebration of National Defense Day had not been celebrated yet by Universities in Yogyakarta. Thus, the blood donation titled “A Drop of Blood to Defend the Nation” could drive UMY be the first university in Yogyakarta celebrating the historical day. He expected that the National Defense Day could be commemorated through various different concepts.
On the other hand, the Captain of Menwa SAT-017, Sofyan Fajar, explained that the celebration of the National Defense Day has not been familiar yet in society. Therefore, his party was willing to acquaint the society, particularly young generation, the day established by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono since 2006.
For one reason, the student of Law Faculty batch 2012 thought that many young generations seemed indifferent to various historical celebrations of Indonesia. “We, Menwa, invite students to introduce the sixth National Defense Day,” Sofwan added.
HBN itself was established by government of Indonesia to commemorate the declaration of Emergent Government of Republic of Indonesia by Sjaffrruddin Prawiranegara in South Sumatera on the 19th December 1948. It was the time when President Soekarno and Hatta were under arrest by Dutch. Then, the capital city of Indonesia moved to Yogyakarta was colonialized by Dutch stating that government of Republic of Indonesia was dispersed. The policy regarding HBN was established by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono through Presidential Decree No.28.
