Four students of the eighth batch of Master of Nursing of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) a clinical practice or a student exchange program at International Islamic University, Malaysia; Ubon Ratchathani University, Thailand, Guanxi Medical University, China; and Changhua Christian Hospital. Their departure ceremony was conducted on Thursday (4/10).
According to a release on Sunday (7/10), the program secretary Erna Rochmawati, S.Kp., Ns., MNSc., M.Med.Ed., Ph.D. stated that the clinical practice was a subject course at the master’s degree program and aimed to enhance educational quality. “The outbound program is an effort to become a reputable university. I wish that students utilize the occasion since they will gain different experiences in terms of learning, facilities, medical methods, and others. Students should also be able to analyze the differences,” declared Erna.
Besides, students of the seventh batch attended the ceremony to share their experience. One of them was Yurensi Felni Tjingaisa, S.Kep., Ns. who did the clinical practice at Guanxi Medical University, China stated that cultural distinctions are the greatest challenge. “Halal food was quite hard to find, but you do not need to worry because the hospital parties know it and they will show you where to buy halal food. Volunteers will accompany you. Indeed, what to remember is that they are disciplined. For instance, if we require them to pick us at 8 in the morning, they will arrive 15 minutes earlier,” she told.
Another student Rosita Jafar, S.Kep., Ns. who also had a clinical practice at Christian Hospital Taiwan also shared her experience. She conveyed that Taiwan has a tight and disciplined learning system. “They planned our schedule in details and it was quite tight so that we did not spend much time to visit tourism destinations in Taiwan since we spent most of our time at hospital. Moreover, Taiwan has equipped sophisticated technology. You have to leverage this occasion to find out deeper nursing methods in Taiwan. In fact, you should try all of the modern facilities,” she mentioned.
