Students of UMY Achieve Six Medals at the UGM Taekwondo Championship

Taekwondo club of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) achieved six medals of seven categories at the UGM Taekwondo Championship for Yogyakarta and Central Java. It was conducted at Fitness Hall of University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) on 2nd December.

Joined by 300 participants, Taekwondo of UMY gained two silver and four bronze medals. “Seven students of UMY competed in Senior Prestasi (senior class). Each athlete was included in a different category and they got six medals for categories of Female Under 46, Female Under 49, Female Over 73, Male Under 54 Son, Male Under 86, Male Over 80,” mentioned Danish, a manager team as well as a student of Department of Japanese Language Education of batch 2017 in an interview on Wednesday (6/12).

They were Bunga Alfaeni Febriana (a Pharmacy student of batch 2017, silver); Anas Banu Aji, (a Law student of batch 2015, silver); Naphatsara Lamor (an International Relationss student of batch 2017, bronze); Yusril Ihza (an International Relations student of batch 2016, bronze); Fikri Ghozali (an Agribusiness student of batch 2016, bronze); and Amalia N.S. (a Management student of batch 2017, bronze).

Danish told that they prepared for the competition for three months. “In the previous period, they obtained three medals in an international championship in Bali and other championships. The UGM Taekwondo Championship was the first competition that we joined in this period. We will participate in other championships,” he declared.

Danish expected that the Taekwondo club of UMY could win other championships. “The club now possesses 180 members so that we could obtain more achievements, particularly in Yogyakarta and Central Java. This period, we will attempt to actively participate in national and international championships,” he ended.
