Students associated in a Taekwondo club of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) gained a lot of medals in a Taekwondo championship of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) and Jawa Tengah, Walikota Cup, on Friday-Sunday (21-23/9) at Sport Hall Kridosono, Yogyakarta City.
At the annual cup joined by 750 athletes, Taekwondo of UMY sent 13 athletes to 14 contest categories. With two-week preparation, the students achieved 3 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals. “It was quite preparation since many athletes were at their hometown during a semester break. Thus, our coach told us to have individual exercises. Ultimately, we got the medals,” stated a team manager Anas Banu Aji an interview on Thursday (27/9).
Anas added that the athletes were students from different batches, namely batch of 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, and joined Poomasae and Kyorugi categty for senior and junior levels. “One of the athletes was a student of batch 2018 so that he could motivate new other athletes to do more exercises,” he told.
Athletes obtaining the gold medals were Angga Misbahuddin (IGOV), Hani Novitasari (Department of English Language Education), and Annisa Nurul Huda (Department of Islamic Counseling Communication), while athletes gaining the silver medal were Andi Fajriansyah (Department of Communication Science), Milati Khusna (Department of Islamic Counseling Communication), Intan Nadya Putri (Islamic Counseling Communication), Nimas Sekar Rachimma (Department of Law), and Febya Shinta Adella (Department of English Language Education). Then, athletes achieving the bronze medals were Kiki Safitri (Department of Accounting), Dea Paramita (Department of Agrotechnology), Yusril Ihza (Department of International Relations), Amelia Dwi Juliani (Department of Law), Abdul Ghany Usman Fatsey (Department of Informatics Engineering), Andre Surya Pratama (Department of Management), and Angga Misbahuddin (IGOV).
