Department of Islamic Communication and Counseling (KKI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) organized KKI Day to enhance students’ competitiveness and reinforce friendship among them. The KKI Day was an output of courses for one semester and the event will be conducted annually.
In her remark on Wednesday (3/1) at the east area of a volleyball court of UMY, Department Head of KKI of UMY Twediana Budi Hapsari, S.Sos., M.Si., Ph.D. informed that students sold various products and services such as food and photos. One of the student groups led by Reza Surya Jaya, a student of batch 2014, offered a service of packaging. “Many groups market goods and food so that I initiated to create a packaging service. Unlike others, I think that this service is offered not only today but for a long-term period and for public,” told Reza.
Even though the event was held when other departments of UMY has accomplished their semester, KKI students remained enthusiastic about carrying out the event. Dean of Faculty of Islam of UMY Dr. Akif Khilmiyah stated, “This even is conducted rather lately since this semester has ended in several departments. Nevertheless, students’ appreciation should be appreciated.”
Dr. Akif maintained that the KKI Day is an event showing that students should be active and creative. “I see a lot of creative students here. Indeed, several months ago I saw new students becoming photographers in a lecturer’s wedding party. This is amazing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of UMY Dr. Sukamta, S.T., M.T. appreciated KKI of UMY for organizing the KKI Day. “I wish that this event bring positive impacts on the students,” he hoped.
Dr. Sukamta also commented on one of the photos exhibited on the KKI Day. “I am interested in a photo displaying two women hugging and looking at a lake. It can bear many interpretations because LGBT has been the hottest issue. Muhammadiyah firmly defies LGBT so that as a Muhammadiyah institution UMY will crack down on the LGBT people and the LGGB students may most likely be expelled from this university. I invoke this department to preserve the students form LGBT behaviors. Dealing with the photo of the two women, I suggest being careful in taking photos,” emphasized Dr. Sukamta.
Moreover, he encouraged students to learn from experts. “You will get new inspirations and your quality will be developed id you learn from the experts,” recommended Dr. Sukamta.
