The development of information technology has created many changes in public behaviour in different aspects of life. These changes show that people need to adapt using new technology to survive. To that end, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) will host the third International Conference on Sustainable Innovation (ICoSI) to respond to any disrupting phenomena that may happen. This event will be held on the 30th and 31st of July 2019 in the Central Campus of UMY.
dr. Iman Permana, M.Kes., Ph.D as the head of the committee stated that the 3rd ICoSI will discuss the theme of Innovation in Disruptive Era. “Disruption caused by the development of information technology will change the public’s matter in production, consumption, interaction, and their manner of thinking. This will lead to the old ways being disrupted and left behind, and in order to survive, we need to develop and adapt. For example, the change in the medium currently consumed by the public has led them to open .pdf files in their gadgets instead of opening their books. This is one of the things that we must adapt and facilitate to keep up,” he stated.
Iman also stated that ICoSI is a place for suggesting what can be done to facilitate chance so we can accommodate any new needs. “There are three main topics to be discussed in the coming ICoSI wich are; technology and technique, humanity and education, as well as health and nursing. These topics will be explored in 9 conferences namely ISHERSs (International Symposium on Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, and Religious Studies); ICIEFI (International Conference of Islamic Economic and Financial Inclusion); ICISDe (International Conference on Islamic Studies in the Digital Era) ICoSA (International Conference on Sustainable Agriculture); ISCEIE (International Symposium of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering); ICONURS (International Conference on Nursing); ICoELTICs (International Conference of English Language Teaching, Literature & Linguistics); ISETH (International Symposium of Engineering, Technology, and Health Sciences); ASIAN-Col (ASIAN Conference on Comparative Laws),” He added.
UMY’s Vice Rector of Academics, Dr. Sukamta, S.T., M.T, stated that this event is aimed to build a good academic culture among lecturers, and to help researchers disseminate the results of their research. “This is an amazing moment for UMY. We managed to mobilize 337 internal lecturers from 800 participants from one event. UMY submitted the most scientific papers, and this is a good motivation for lecturers to actively participate and write in other international events,” he stated.
Sukamta also explained that the articles in the seminar are a result of research regarding the newest findings and innovations in their respective areas, focusing on findings that discuss how to best face disruption. These findings will be published in SCOPUS and Web of Science proceedings, as well as distributed to other indexed international journals which collaborates with UMY.
“Hopefully, this will increase the numbers of citations from lecturers and researchers from UMY and other universities. UMY targets an output of not only publications but also patents and inventions registered in Kemenkumham (Indonesia’s Ministry of Law and Human Rights). For this academic year, UMY has managed to register 35 new patents, and hopefully ICoSI can add to the number of inventions,” He added. (raditia)
