Electro Fair 2018 appealed to robot enthusiasts from elementary school, junior high school and senior high school. Due to their interest, they participated in Robotech Contest organized by Electrical Engineering Student Association (KMTE) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Thursday (5/4) at Sportotium of UMY.
“Robot technology in Indonesia has rapidly developed. Thus, this competition aims to provide the elementary and high school students an occasion to enhance their capability,” stated Head of Department of Electrical Engineering of UMY Romadoni Syahputra,
He entirely supported the competition which has been conducted eight times. His parties also attempted to do improvements so that there would be champions being able to compete in international levels.
Romadhoni informed that there were 235 participants divided into 95 teams vying in two competition categories, namely Sumo and Transporter. In the Sumo category, two robots attacked each other till one of them got out of the competition arena while in the Transporter category two robots tried to make goals and the winner was the robot with the most goals. “Interestingly, in this competition, the elementary teams had matches with not only other elementary school teams but also high school teams,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the committee Anjah told that the competition was addressed to notice youth’s capability enhancement in robotics. He also revealed that the participants’ enthusiasm increased year by year. This year the participants were from Jawa Timur, Yogyakarta, Jawa Tengah, dan Jawa Barat,” mentioned Anjas. He expected that the ROBOTECH participants will be across Indonesia.
One of the participants Liza Firtia from SMP Muhammadiyah PLUS Gunungpring Muntilan also expressed, “I am enthusiastic about this competition since it can boost my ability in designing robots. This is my first competition and I wish that this competition is annually conducted.”
In addition, the ROBOTECH competition was a ‘warm-up’ event before Directorate of Student, Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs of Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education collaborating with UMY organizes Indonesia Robot Contest 2018 on July at Sportorium of UMY.
