Department of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting (KPI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) welcomed a visit from Faculty of Dakwah of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Raden Intan Lampung on Wednesday (10/10) at PSIK room, F7 building, UMY. The visit was a field work aiming to enhance students’ knowledge and experiences of university activities.
In the visit, Head of KPI of UMY Twediana Budi Hapsari, S.Sos., M.Si., Ph.D. presented programs of KPI. “KPI of UMY is accredited ‘A’ by National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) and we have two specialization programs, namely Counseling and Broadcasting & Photography. In the academic area, we always attempt to enhance our teaching quality by cooperating with various parties. For instance, we will imminently collaborate with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USIM) to conduct a workshop on photography and documentary film making,” told Twediana.
She added, “We always encourage students to enhance their capability in various fields and boost their creativity. For example, we register students to participate in regional, national, and international competitions. On April, students will compete in Asian Youth Indies Film Festival 2018.”
Meanwhile, Chief of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Student Association 2017/2018 Haikal Ma’mum shared students’ activities outside class. “This association is a forum to accommodate students in various divisions such as religion, journalism, and counseling. We also possess an Islamic Communication Community directing students to their interests such as public speaking, radio broadcasting, and film,” mentioned Haikal.
He also explained how to encourage students to be interested in events organized by the association is by conducting activities in line with students’ interests. “No one like being forced to do something so that we have to conceptualize the activities as students’ interests,” he maintained.
