The field trip, welcomed by UMY in the commission room of A.R. Fachruddin A, Floor 5, at UMY, discussed not only how the academic management of UMY was carried out but UM Gresik also investigated and explored tips in order to foster and make the academic management better. They believed that the academic management of UMY was much better than UM Gresik’s. Hence, it was the reason of UM Gresik’s comparative study to UMY.
Besides, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. explained the performance and duties of UMY’s lecturers to UM Gresik. He also expounded the program of scientific research and publication from UMY’s lecturers. On his explanation, the program established for novice lecturers was oriented not only at magister program. “But also at doctorate program. Thus, the lecturers should have higher education till doctorate program,” he explained.
It was not only about continuing their study until doctorate program, Gunawan continued, but both old and new lecturers were also encouraged to conduct researches and have scientific writings. The most important aspect, according to Gunawan, was that the scientific writings should be published in accredited national and international journals. “Therefore, we also embolden the lecturers to work and research. The researches would be funded until the manuscript was published in national and international journals. Moreover, we boost departments to accredit journals which they have. All of them were carried out to improve the lecturers’ performance of UMY so that they do not only focus on not only the credits which they teach but also create scientific writings,” he conveyed.
Furthermore, the Director of Magister Program of UMY, Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, and the Head of LP3M of UMY, Hilman latief, Ph.D. recommended that UM Gresik could coin roadmap or research plans at either university or department scale. They argued that both of them were essential in order that the proposed proposal to university or department was not illusive proposal, but it was obvious research proposal which could enhance the quality of university and departments.
