Ministry of Cooperatives and Small Medium Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkop UKM) cooperating with three universities in Yogyakarta conducted business incubator selection for community having small medium business enterprises. Those there universities were Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), and Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY). The business incubator selection raised a theme of “Rekruitmen Calon Tenant Inkubasi Wirausaha” (Recruitment of Prospective Incubation Tenant of Enterprise Incubator. It was held on Saturday (27/6) at a meeting hall, Building Ki Bagus Hardikusumo, Floor 3. Each owner presented his product which would be reviewed by four lecturers of UMY, namely Ir. Agus Nugroho Setiawan, M.P., Sri Handari W,SE.M.Si., Alni Rahmawati, S.E., M.M., and Atik Septi,S.IP.
In the review, Ir. Agus Nugroho Setiawan, M.P., a lecturer of Agricultural Department, stated that the reviewers would select the background of the owner and how the business had run. “If the owner has been excellent or the business could not develop, he will not pass,” he said. He informed that there were 80 submitted proposals and there would be 50 proposals passing the interview. “The kind of the business varies as culinary, tailor, planting, and others. But, most of them are culinary,” he continued.
There were two review sessions. First, it was at 9-11 am and for participants of another UMY, retired, or staffs. Second, it was at 2 pm till drop and for participants of UM who mostly were students. Besides, the participants also had coaching by Prof. Dr. Hadi Karya Purwadaria from Indonesia Incubator Business Assiciation (AIBI). He shared how to be a successful businessman. He gave instances from having no quite capital to elevating the business and having thousand millions of turnover.
“Establishing a business has to begin from a dream. However, if it is only a dream and plant, it will not be reality. There should be ambition, eagerness, and persistence to realize it,” he asserted. He also told that being a successful businessman should keep his promise. “If you have decided the cost id 10 billion rupiahs, do not suddenly increase the cost or decrease the number of products. It should be in line with the agreement. If it occurs, no one will trust to us,” he added. He also conveyed the main key to be a successful businessman, the way of marketing, and how to manage a business having high capital.
After the coaching, the event was officially opened by Head of Cooperatives and UKM, Ministry of Cooperatives and Small Medium Enterprises, Sultoni Nurifai and Rector of UMY Prof. Bambang Cipto. In his remark, Sultoni uttered that being a developed country needs 2% or more of the citizens working as a businessman. In fact, businessmen in Indonesia are only 1.67% while businessmen in Singapore are 4% and Malaysia has 3%. “Therefore, the ministry encourages the number of entrepreneurs to attain 2%. One of the ways is through this business incubator,” he addressed.
