Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) attempts to have a significant enhancement of QS Stars and Higher Education Institution Accreditation (AIPT) in 2007. The university tries to optimize and escalate the internal quality standards.

On a remark of a University Coordination Meeting (RKU) of UMY on Friday (8/1) at meeting hall of A.R. Fachruddin A, Floor 5, a member of Task Force of QS Internal Accreditation Dr. Achmad Nurmandi stated that UMY has achieved an accreditation score of QS Stars. Thus, UMY has obtained international accreditation and has acknowledged in the world, but this university has to escalate several aspects.

“UMY gained five stars for Facilities, Social Responsibilities, and Inclusiveness. However, UMY achieved four stars of Teaching and three stars for Employability. These aspects of Teaching and Employability will be the focus to enhance the score or the starts. Fostering the quality of research and department internationalization to get three or four starts of QS Starts will also be the focus. Therefore, the internal and international standards of this university are in line with the standards of AIPT and QS,” Nurmandi conveyed.

He mentioned several barriers faced by UMY. He argued that UMY ought to add approximately 45 lecturers having pursued their doctoral degree, increase the number of professors and publications by lecturers and doctors of UMY in Scopus journal, enhance the number of departments having A or B accreditation till more than 50 percent. “The departments not having ‘A’ or ‘B’ accreditation yet can foster the accreditation for one and a half years. UMY also attempts to have 500 copy rights, 100 books, and 100 journals. Hence, all lecturers are encouraged to publish their writing. Library of UMY must also subscribe Scopus journals. The number of journals indexed by Scopus should be enhance from now on because, based on an audit of QS, the number of research and publications of UMY indexed by Scopus is only a few,” he uttered.

Nurmandi recommended that each department could achieve international accreditation besides accreditation of BAN-PT. It is expected to be reality in 2017. “Starting from February 2016, data of QS Ranking will be inputted so that UMY can be included on Top University in the world. These aspects will be the guidelines to work and make decisions of this university,” he maintained.
