UMY Becomes the First Private University Offering Doctoral Program of Management

Graduate School of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) officially launched a new doctoral program, Program of Management. A permit to establish the new program was based on Decree No.885/KPT/I/2018 issued by Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) of the Republic of Indonesia on 16 October 2018. Meanwhile, a student admission for the doctoral program opens on 17 November 2018 to 28 February 2019.

The Doctoral Program Head of Management Prof. Dr. Siswoyo Haryono stated that the program establishment was underlain by an era of information disclosure and competition in Industrial Revolution 4.0. Thus, UMY would like to produce leading and Islamic academicians beneficial for community.

“We would like to create doctors of management answering global challenges since there have been drastic changes. Our curriculum is based on Islamic and Muhammadiyah teachings expected to resolve humanitarian issues,” declared Prof. Siswoyo in an interview on Thursday (20/12) at Graduate School of UMY.

Siswoyo wished that students of the program could conduct research and publish it in national or international journals. It has been mentioned on the program study plan. “Their dissertation should be published on Scopus-indexed journals so that our graduates are fruitful for academic development of Indonesia,” he told.

The doctoral program offers three specializations, namely Management of Human Resources, Financial Management, and Marketing Management. Students whose bachelor’s and master’s degrees are not in management are required ti take a matriculation program. Indeed, UMY is a private university providing Doctoral Program of Management. Hence, Siswoyo set a goal that the program achieves ‘B’ accreditation in the next two years.
