Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) always attempts to provide education to Indonesian people, especially people of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY). With a breakthrough, UMY presents Mobil Bioskop Keliling (Bioling – a Cinema car). The Bioling is utilized to equip free spectacle to people in Gunungkidul and Kulonprogo on 9-13 February 2019 as a part of event series to commemorate the 38th anniversary of UMY.
In an interview on Wednesday (20/2), a lecturer of Communication Science of UMY Budi Dwi Arifianto, S.Sn., M.Sn. stated, “This Boiling aims to entertain and educate people. We present two films, namely Iqra’ and Boven Digoel from Center for Film Development of Ministry of Education and Culture.” Iqra’ tells about a little kid who dreamed of becoming an astronaut, tucked with some spiritual values. Meanwhile, Boven Digoel tells about a doctor who served people in an inland area of Papua and tried hard to initiate medical renewal in there.
Budi continued that the screening film brings back culture of outdoor cinemas which are pretty rare nowadays in Indonesia. People seemed interested in the screening, proved by a fact that there were over 200 people attending the screening. Besides, the films also suited culture of local communities of Indonesia and was addressed to teach moral, culture, and other essential values.
“UMY is granted the Bioling from Ministry of Education and Culture and has responsibility of taking care of it. I hope that UMY students can leverage the Bioling as a means for spreading positive vibes to all people,” detailed Budi.
In a different occasion, a lecturer of Communication Science of UMY Fajar Junaedi, S.IP., M.Si., informed that the Bioling can be a medium to distribute and exhibit films both inside and outside this university. “The Bioling serves a convenience to educate people effectively. For example, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science has Program Belajar Kesehatan Masyarakat (a Health Education Program). Films can be a good means to promote the program and educate people. The Bioling is also important for UMY community service implementation because it facilitates people’s learning process,” he emphasized.
