Fifty prospective lecturers of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) joined Training of Basic Instructional Skills (PEKERTI) on Monday (11/1) at A.R. Fachruddin A, Floor 5. The training would be held for six days, and they would learn proposal and research writing, learning quality enhancement, lecturer ethics, learning media, e-learning, assessment, and Islamic Studies (Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan).
Head of Daily Advisor Board (BPH) Prof. Dr. Syamsul Anwar., M.A. stated that the lecturers ought to master foreign languages besides understanding knowledge. “To be accustomed to speaking foreign language, the lecturers can learn English at morning and Arabic at night, for instance. Arabic is also essential since it is a language of Moslems,” Prof. Syamsul conveyed.
He also said that, to maintain ‘A’ Accreditation of Higher Education Institution Accreditation (AIPT), the lecturers of UMY who have not pursued their doctoral degree yet are expected to pursued it. “It is expected that this training could encourage the lecturers to pursue their doctoral degree,” he conveyed.
Head of Learning Development Agency (LPP) Dr. Suryanto declared that each lecturer should possess online journal or international journal writing skills, and should recognize learning evaluation and assessment standards. “The assessment is to find out students’ skills and can be undertaken through competition tests since students might not learn if there is not any test,” he inserted.
He also mentioned that lecturers were provided training of making learning materials like books, syllable, and diktat. “DIKTI will fund 25 million rupiahs the making of learning materials,” he told.
Additionally, Head of Human Resource Board Rini Juni Astuti, S.E., M.Si. wished that each lecturer could support UMY to maintain ‘A’ accreditation. “The lecturers can support UMY through their academic achievements, research, and community service so that UMY can be much better,” Rini expected.
