Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) gave zakat to 87 institutions which had proposed a proposal. The institutions were mosques, schools, and other institutions under supervision of Muhammadiyah branches. 87 of 107 proposals were accepted to gain the zakat.
Secretary of Board of Trustees of UMY Drs. Sukiman, M.A. sated that Muslims, particularly Muhammadiyah members are potential to empower economy. “Zakat distribution in this semester may be leveraged by all receivers. The number proposals increases each year. This shows that Muhammadiyah commits to develop institutions or businesses. This year we only accept 87 proposals because the provided fund is 1,263,000,000 rupiahs. The zakat disbursement is based on program priorities proposed to UMY,” declared Sukiman in his remark on Saturday (28/7) at Rector Lobby of UMY.
Meanwhile, head of an institutional zakat team of UMY Drs. Bambang Rahmanto informed that the fund can be disbursed after the zakat receivers make a bank account at BMT of UMY. “Afterwards, they complete a form acknowledged by Pimpinan Ranting Muhammadiyah (PRM), Pimpinan Cabang Muhammadiyah (PCM), Pimpinan Ranting Aisiyah (PRA), or Pimpinan Cabang Aisiyah (PRA). They have to submit two copies of the acknowledged form and later will be agreed by head of an institutional zakat team of UMY. Besides, they have to write a report of the fund use by attaching the original receipts acknowledged by the PRM/PCM/PRA/PCA. If they do not make the report, their proposal will not be accepted for the next fund disbursement in the next semester. Indeed, the fund disbursement will commence on 6 August,” he explained.
Additionally, Rector of UMY Dr. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. told that not all funds are disbursed because a lot of institutions still need our assistance. “For instance, UMY is now supervising several universities which entail our financial help or man power. One of the universities is Universitas Muhammadiyah Ambon. Hence, I hope that this institutional zakat can entirely evolve Muhammadiyah members and Muhammadiyah products,” he asserted.
