UMY Donates Institution Zakat to 49 Institutions

To recite the institution zakat of the 2020/2021 even semester, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) once again distributed routine zakat funds to 49 institutions that submitted aid proposals to UMY. The total number of institutions that submitted funding proposals to UMY this semester is 271, but only 49 institutions have succeeded in getting funding for this semester, due to the availability of funding that is only sufficient to be distributed to 49 institutions. Furthermore, institutions that have not received assistance this semester will be included in the queue list for the next semester’s zakat institution.

“UMY never rejected the proposals that came in asking for help for a positive need, but because of our limited funds, only 49 entered the priority list so we immediately channeled this assistance this semester. Each institution will receive funding of around 10 to 15 million rupiah from a total of 600 million disbursed funds, and the recipient institution must open an account in Baitul Maal Wa Tamwil (BMT) for the disbursement of funds, “said the chairman of UMY’s zakat distribution Drs. Bambang Rahmanto.

The recipients of this funding assistance are Muhammadiyah schools, mosques, and other Muhammadiyah religious institutions which consist of 14 Gunung Kidul institutions, Kulonprogo 12 institutions, Yogyakarta City 2 institutions, Sleman 10 institutions, and Bantul 11 institutions. The distribution of funds was carried out on Monday (17/02) at the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership Building in Gunung Kidul. “In order to monitor the forms of responsibility of institutions that received funds for zakat institutions, UMY provided forms that must be filled in by the institutions. Thus the accountability report on the funds they receive will be monitored properly. However, the zakat recipient institution can only receive funding from UMY a maximum of two times, with the hope that all institutions that have submitted proposals can receive funding evenly. UMY has received a lot of funds from students, and for that, we also have to provide benefits to the community through the institution’s alms-giving. We hope that the more that UMY gives to the Ummah (the public), the more UMY will get from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala,” Bambang added.

“Even though the institutions that submitted proposals to UMY came from all over Indonesia, for now we only focus on Yogyakarta in the past considering that there are still many institutions in rural areas that have not yet been helped and require considerable funding so that our focus needed in Yogyakarta. we will definitely go through other proposals but please wait patiently, “Bambang concluded.
