Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) always seeks to enhance internationalization to comply with a mission as a leading university in Asia. One of the efforts is expanding cooperation with various foreign universities as undertaken by Office of Islamic Management and Studies (LLPI) of UMY. The office represented by Head of the LPPI UMY Khaeruddin Hamsin, Miftahul Haq, and Mukhlis Rahmanto visited The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Cairo to broaden institutions in the Middle East on Sunday (12/8).

Besides, the office parties went to Office of Islamic Study Research at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif (Majma ‘Al-Buhuts Al-Islamiyah), Taha Jabir Ulwani Academy for Qur’anic Studies, the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and Faculty of Qiraat al-Qur’an al-Karim – University of Al Azhar in Thanta. “The visit is also to prepare for the establishment of Center for Al-Qur’an Studies at UMY and to sign agreements on several programs such as visiting professor, development of human resources, Arabic Language curriculum development, and student exchange,” told Vice Rector V of UMY Hilman Latief, Ph.D. on a release on Tuesday (28/8).

Afterwards, on Friday (17/8), UMY parties met members of PCIM and PCIA in Egypt in a discussion on ‘Muhammadiyah and Projects in a Millenial era’ that Head of Majelis Tarjih of Muhammadiyah as well as Board of Trustees of UMY Syamsul Anwar was the speaker. In the discussion, Syamsul mentioned three aspects which millennial generations should possess. “First, they have to have the ethos of science because civilization may not exist without science vigor of the generations. Second, they should have the ethos of economy since Islam has the largest human resources, the broadest spread, and the most complete historical documents. Last, they have to possess the social ethos that millennial generations play essential roles in preserving people,” declared Syamsul.
