Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is one of universities expected to create high quality of human resources who can be potential leaders of Indonesian nation and not increase the unemployment rate.
This is stated by Dr. Ir Bambang Supriyadi, CES, DEA Coordinating body (Kopertis) V of Yogyakarta in his speech at Graduation Period II Vocational, Bachelor and Postgraduate UMY Year 2017/2018 on Saturday (10/2) at Sportorium UMY. “I thank UMY for helping the government in creating qualified human resources,” he said.
Bambang also added that currently there are about 600 thousand employments who come from college graduates. University graduates also contribute only 12% of the total workers in Indonesia and the rest are from vocational graduates and others. On the other hand, the technological advancement that is often referred as the 4th industrial revolution is easy to cause people to do various ways to achieve its goals. This is the result of a high competition.
“Therefore, I hope these graduates continue to fight for the truth, so that they can become the leaders of this nation and not increase the unemployment rate,” he said. Similarly, Dr.Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P as the Rector of UMY also asserted that the 4th industrial revolution has started to take place today. This forces Indonesia to continue to improve quality of Human Resources in order to have a good competition. “Hence, I hope that the students who have graduated to keep studying so they can have well respond to the various conditions that will happen, “he explained.
Meanwhile, Biantara Albab, former president of BEM of UMY advised all alumni to remain proud of UMY which has provided education, so that all the alumni can become extraordinary figures. “I also advise my friends not to stop Da’wah wherever we are, as a way to implement knowledge that we have obtained,” he claimed.
In the graduation day, there were 1127 students who graduated including 152 students from Islamic Faculty (FAI), 204 students from Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), 49 students from Faculty of Law (FH), 227 students from Faculty Of Political & Social Science (FSIPOL), 62 students from Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), 61 students from Faculty of Agriculture (FP), 172 students from Faculty of Engineering (FT), 56 students from Language Education Faculty (FPB), 65 students from Vocational Program, and 79 students from Postgraduate Program. In addition, two students from Thailand and one student from Philippine also graduated on that day.
As an appreciation, UMY also awarded scholarship and development fund to the best graduates. The first award was received by Ananda Rizky Rahmadayanti from FEB with GPA 3.97, the second award was received by Dwian Hartomi Deed Padma Eldo from Postgraduate, Master of Governmental Science with GPA 3. 92. The fastest graduate was achieved by Bella Noermalitasari from FAI spending 3 Years, 4 Months, 2 Days. Syadza Raihan Mahdi is entitled to hold a bachelor’s degree in the age of 19 was designated as the youngest graduates. One of the best graduates, Ridwan Setya Kurniawan from Informatics Engineering was also awarded of having a job already before graduation. In addition, graduates from the Vocational Program, Irfan who was also awarded was not able to attend the graduation ceremony since he has already worked at a petroleum company in Abudhabi.
