Thirty eight lecturers of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) obtained lecturer certification. The reward aimed at enhancing the quality if the lecturers and encourage them to increase their professionalism. The educational certification is an official document stating that the lecturers are the professional manpower for higher education.
“The certification shows qualified lecturers, and it may embolden them to be professors. In academic life, qualified lecturers are a must,” declared Rector of UMY, Prof. Bambang Cipto, M.A. when delivering a remark of certification awarding on Monday (16/5) at rector lobby of UMY.
Prof. Bambang expected that the certification may motivate the lecturers to pursue their higher degree, and inspire uncertified lecturers. “I wish that the lecturers can continue their doctoral degree and can be a professor. While, the others (who have not been certified yet – ed.) can prepare and arrange their certification,” the Rector hoped.
The certification was rewarded to two Accounting lecturers, one Management lecturer, one Pharmacy lecturer, three Nursing lecturers, one Governmental Study lecturer, six Dentistry lecturers, two lecturers of Master of Hospital Management, three lecturers of Medical Department, four Electrical Engineering lecturers, two Information Engineering lecturers, two Mechanical Engineering lecturer, two Civil Engineering lecturers, and the other six lecturers were certified in the first period.
Who joined the certification test were also UMY’s lecturers living abroad. “Of 43 registered lecturers, there are 38 lecturers passing the certification test. The test was also followed by UMY’s lecturers studying in overseas such as Australia,” told Rini Juni Astuti, Head of Human Resource Officer as well as a Management lecturer.
The certification is one of the goals of the officer to possess qualified and professional lecturers. 260 of 549 lecturers of UMY have been certified.
