The new semester at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta will soon begin. As such, it plans to conduct the lectures using two methods, namely offline (outside the network) and online (online). In order to finalize the preparations for the arrival of students who chose to study offline, UMY held another meeting with residents around its Central Campus. This meeting was attended by regional heads such as the sub-district and village heads as well as the local police and military chiefs and was held at the 5th-floor Meeting Room, Ar Fachruddin B Building, UMY Campus.
When opening the meeting, UMY Rector, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM., Revealed that UMY will conduct lectures in a new way without forgetting the health protocol to prevent the spreading of COVID-19. “There will be new habits in carrying out lectures, such as by reducing the number of class capacities, from 60 students to 25,” he added.
In the meeting that took place on Tuesday (25/08), the Head of the UMY COVID-19 Task Force, Dr. Sukamta, S.T., M.T., delivered an explanation of the lecture plan which will start on September 14, 2020 and a graduation ceremony which will be held on 9 and 10 September.
On the same occasion, Dr. Mukti Fajar ND, SH., M.Hum., Explained that the university had conducted an audience with the Provincial COVID-19 Handling Team and also consulted with the Provincial Government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and received direct direction from the Deputy Governor of DIY. “UMY has submitted a set of health protocols that have been prepared and we received permission to conduct offline lectures. The Deputy Governor gave moral support because he thought we should not hide behind fear,” he added. However, the government did not explicitly give written permission in the form of a letter for the implementation of this offline lecture but would go directly to UMY to check the readiness of the university.
In addition, the spokesperson for the UMY COVID-19 Task Force Team, dr. Agus Widiyatmoko, Sp.PD., M.Sc., was also present to provide an explanation regarding the steps taken by the UMY health team in conducting screening to cut the spread of COVID-19 starting from checking the temperature of every visitor at the main gate of the campus to handle any member of the academic community who is infected with this virus. At the end of the meeting, a letter of approval was signed by the university and regional heads which will then be distributed to the local community so that there would be no doubts when the students arrived.
