UMY Helps Overcome Lack of PPE in Wonosobo Regency

The number of COVID-19 cases have increased drastically in the Wonosobo Regency, Central Java Province with 64 new cases as of May 19. This limited the availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and PPEs are more needed with every day of the pandemic. Seeing this, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) through a lecturer of its Nursing Study Program (PSIK) Nurvita Risdiana, S.Kep., Ns., MSc distributed 645 face shields to Hospitals and Health Centers in Wonosobo Regency on Tuesday (5/19).

Nurvita explained that the PPEs in Wonosobo Regency were prioritized for the Regional General Hospital (RSUD). So private hospitals and health centers experience PPE shortages, including faces shield.

“Wonosobo is one of the regions in Central Java with the highest number of COVID-19 cases. I got word from my fellow nurses that there was a lack of PPE. So I ask for help from UMY to manufacture face shields,” she said during the face shield signing ceremony on, Tuesday (5/19).

The details of health facilities that receive face protection are as follows. Puskesmas Wonosobo 2 (30 units), Wonosobo PMI (10 units), Puskesmas Kejajar 1 (55 units),Puskesmas Kejajar 2 (40 units), Puskesmas Selomerto (70 units), Puskesmas Mojotengah (20 units), Puskesmas Wadaslintang (70 units) ), Puskesmas Kretek 1 (30 units), Puskesmas Sepuran (20 units), PKU Muhammadiyah Wonosobo (200), Puskesmas Kalijajar (80 units) and Soemarmo Husada Clinic in Wonogiri District (20 units).

Nurvita also said that the number of Covid-19 cases has increased dramatically in Wonosobo District because many travelers came from abroad and big cities like DKI Jakarta. That causes the number of cases to continue to grow.

“After seeing the data, most of the cases in Wonosobo came from workers outside the area who returned to their villages,” added the UMY Lecturer.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Dr. Sukamta, S.T., M.T., stated that UMY continues to be committed to actively participating in overcoming the COIVD-19 Pandemic. UMY will help anyone who needs help. Likewise, this face protection device will be given to various health institutions or groups in need.

“This is part of the UMY Serves, as indeed UMY wants to help everyone. Not only those in Muhammadiyah, but whoever needs it. For anyone who needs a face shield. It’s easy, just submit a letter and then we will take it into consideration. As long as they are in stock, we will give it for free without any payment at all, “added Sukamta.

Sukamta reiterated that the activities carried out by UMY never looked at the groups, everything was done for the sake of the people and humanity. (Ak)
