UMY Inaugurates Molecular Medicine and Therapy Research Laboratory

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) officially launched Molecular Medicine and Therapy Research Laboratory (MMT Lab) at Oral and Dental Hospital of UMY, Wirbraja, Yogyakarta City on Thursday (27/12). Many parties as UMY lectures, students, and other UMY members may learn and conduct research at the MMT Lab.

It is managed by Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of UMY. Head of the MMT Lab drg. Arya Adiningrat, Ph.D. stated that the lab establishment aims to make discoveries for patients at the hospital. “We provide facilities to research and test samples. We also expect that this laboratory can be a research center of UMY as our motto, ‘from bench to bedside’, declared Arya on interview on Thursday (3/1).

The MMT Lab possesses four development stages divided into two parts, basic and development stages. “We gear up all equipment and valid research samples in the first stage. We wish that we can be utilized optimally,” declared Arya.

Meanwhile, Rector of UMY Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. conveyed that research on microorganisms has rapidly developed. In the 1990s, cell biology fostered in several fields, not only medicine but also food and agriculture. The development emerge novel terms as biocellular medicine, a biofertilizer, and a biohazard concept,” he mentioned at the lab inauguration.

Gunawan hoped that the laboratory establishment enable science to evolve so that UMY can be developed. He also expected research collaboration of multidiscipline as medicine and agriculture. “We have to believe that the MMT Lab can be a leading laboratory center,” he expressed.
