The certificate acquired after completing the courses is the asset for a graduate to gain employment. However, according to Ir. Dasron Hamid, M. Sc., the rector of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY), gaining employment is not yet adequate. He expects that UMY graduates will also create employment for others.
Hamid stated this in his opening speech for UMY Graduation Ceremony of Undergraduates and Postgraduates period III, Academic Year 2011/2012 in UMY Sportorium on Saturday (6/9).
Further, Hamid asserted that graduating from a university is a step to a new life in the society. This new life will be a harder life. Hence, these graduates are demanded to sharply learn the society’s condition to be independence. Hamid stated, “We are demanded to not only work for the others. Hopefully, the programs to arouse entrepreneur personality in UMY can help the graduates to be professionally independent as well as providing employment for others.”
In this ceremony, of the 452 graduates, 375 were undergraduates and 74 were postgraduates, and 3 were of Doctoral Programs. With these numbers, the overall number of graduates from UMY for Academic Year 2011/2012 reaches 1,461. Thus, the overall number of UMY graduates in total since founded in 1981 is 27,496 for undergraduates, 1,434 for postgraduates, and 3 for Doctoral Programs.
In Hamid’s point of view, in this graduation, UMY has made a glorious achievement. Of all the numbers of graduates, 3 of them are from the Doctoral Program. This is the first time UMY produces doctorate graduates. What makes UMY proud of is that one of the doctorate graduates is an Egypt nationality. Mahmud HamzawiFahimUsman finished his Islamic Politics Doctoral Program for 2 years with a 3.8 GPA. Hamid said “Mahmud, previously, had also finished his Master’s in Islamic Education Sociology in UMY. This really makes us proud.”
Usman finished his doctorate degree after completing a research on The Policy of Authoritarian Regime on Islamic Politics in a Case Study on Soeharto and Anwar Sadat Regimes. The other 2 UMY doctorate graduates are Drs. Kamsi, MA from Islamic Politics Doctoral Program, and dr. Sagiran, Sp.B. M.Kes from Islamic Education Psychology Doctoral Program.
Several awards were given to excellent graduates; the youngest, the fastest, and the best. The youngest graduate is PamellaBellla Nita SIP, an International Relations Department graduate, who graduated at the age of 20 years, 8 month, and 2 days. The fastest graduate is Fifin PermatasariS.Pd.I, a graduate from Islamic Education Department, who finished the program for 3 years, 3 months, and 11 days.
Meanwhile, another International Relations graduate, TaufanHimawan SIP, was awarded as the best graduate for finishing his program for 3 years, 7 months with a GPA of 3.95. This Japanese fluent graduate had conducted a research on The Interest of Japan Politics on the ODA Aids for Indonesia post 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. During his program, Himawan had been involved in several International student exchange programs such as, the 2010 Indonesia-Vietnam Youth Friendship Program,International Friendship Culture Tour and Studies (IFCTS) in Thailand (Bangkok) and Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh), and Youth Studies Expedition of Unity in Diversity in Malaysia and Singapore. Ijazah yang diperoleh setelah menyelesaikan perkuliahan merupakan sebuah modal bagi para lulusan dalam mendapatkan pekerjaan. Namun bagi Rektor Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Ir. Dasron Hamid, M.Sc, memperoleh pekerjaan adalah pencapaian yang belum cukup, ia mengharapakan lulusan UMY juga mampu memberikan pekerjaan bagi sesama.
Hal ini disampaikan Dasron saat memberikan sambutan pada Upacara Wisuda Sarjana dan Pasca Sarjana periode III Tahun Akademik 2011/2012 UMY di Sportorium UMY Sabtu (9/6).
Ia menyampaikan, lulus universitas merupakan tahapan menuju kehidupan baru di masyarakat. Kehidupan di masyarakat ini akan dihadapi lulusan dengan lebih keras. Dengan demikian, mereka dituntut cerdas melihat kondisi masyarakat sehingga dapat memperoleh kemandirian. “Kita dituntut tidak tergantung kerja orang lain. Sejumlah program penumbuhan jiwa kewirausahaan selama di UMY semoga dapat membantu para lulusan untuk mandiri bahkan menciptakan lapangan kerja bagi orang lain” katanya.
Dalam wisuda tersebut, UMY meluluskan 452 wisudawan meliputi 375 wisudawan S1, 74 wisudawan S2 dan 3 wisudawan S3. Dengan jumlah ini, secara keseluruhan UMY pada Tahun akademik 2011/2012 telah meluluskan sejumlah 1.461 wisudawan. Dengan tambahan 1461 wisudawan ini, jumlah lulusan UMY sejak berdiri pada tahun 1981 adalah 27.496 wisudawan S1, 1.434 wisudawan S2, 3 wisudawan S3.
Menurut Dasron, dalam wisuda kali ini, UMY jelas menorehkan pencapaian yang sangat membanggakan. Dari jumlah lulusan yang ia sebutkan, 3 di antaranya adalah lulusan program S3. Wisuda ini menjadi kali pertama bagi UMY meluluskan mahasiswa Program Doktor. Yang lebih membanggakan, salah satu lulusan S3 tersebut adalah mahasiswa UMY berkebangsaan Mesir. Mahmud Hamzawi Fahim Usman, menyelesaikan Program Doktor Politik Islamnya selama 2 tahun dengan Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif 3,80. “Mahmud sebelumnya juga telah menyelesaikan program Magister Psikologi Pendidikan Islam di UMY. Ini sangat membanggakan” ungkap Dasron.
Mahmud lulus setelah meneliti Kebijakan Rezim Otoriter Terhadap Islam Politik pada Studi Kasus Rezim Soeharto dan Anwar Sadat. Dua lulusan Program Doktor UMY lainnya adalah Drs. Kamsi, MA pada Program Doktor Politik Islam, dan dr. Sagiran, Sp.B. M.Kes pada Program Doktor Psikologi Pendidikan Islam.
Sejumlah penghargaan juga diberikan bagi lulusan-lulusan unggulan yaitu wisudawan termuda, tercepat, dan wisudawan terbaik. Wisudawan termuda diraih oleh Pamella Bella Nita SIP., mahasiswa Program Studi Ilmu Hubungan Internasional (HI) yang lulusan di usia 20 tahun 8 bulan 2 hari. Wisudawan tercepat diperoleh Fifin Permatasari S.Pd.I, mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) yang lulus setelah menempuh perkuliahan selama 3 tahun 3 bulan dan 11 hari.
Sementara mahasiswa Prodi HI UMY lainnya, Taufan Himawan SIP, menjadi wisudawan terbaik setelah selama 3 tahun 7 bulan menyelesaikan seluruh perkuliahan dengan menghasilkan Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) yang hampir sempurna yaitu 3,95. Mahasiswa yang fasih berbahasa Jepang ini meneliti Kepentingan Politik Jepang atas pemberian Bantuan ODA untuk Indonesia pasca gempa dan tsunami Jepang 2011. Selama perkuliahan, Taufan juga terlibat dalam beberapa pertukaran mahasiswa internasional seperti 2010 Indonesia-Vietnam Youth Friendship Program, International Friendship Culture Tour and Studies (IFCTS) Thailand (Bangkok) and Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh), serta Youth Studies Expedition of Unity In Diversity Malaysia Singapore.
