Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) officially inaugurated a canteen of ‘Muda Mendunia’ on 3 November 2018 at 10 a.m. The inauguration was attended by all UMY Muhammadiyah officials as well as UMY students. Besides the inauguration, Rector of UMY Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. handed over PDM-Based Economic Independence Fund and launched Bedukmawa (Student Product Buying and Selling).
The canteen becomes the third market place at UMY in addition to the two other canteens, namely Plaza UMY Boga and a canteen of ‘Unggul dan Islami’. All of the canteens possess a different concept. The ‘Muda Mendunia’ canteen located next to a soccer field was designed with a tropical modern concept by consideration for providing a comfortable atmosphere.
The Muda Mendunia canteen groundbreaking was conducted on 10 March 2018. Constructed for seven months, the canteen possesses a main building comprising of a kitchen and four serving areas. Students can enjoy their meal outside the main building such as at five non-storied gazebos, a one-storied gazebo, a 20-people capacity VIP room.
A representative of Broad of Trustees of UMY Dr. Agung Danarto, M.Ag. was proud of the Muda Mendunia canteen establishment. “On behalf of Broad of Trustees of UMY, we appreciated performance of the university officials. To achieve a goal as an Unggul dan Islami dan Muda Mendunia university, we have to be supported by quality human resources and I think it has been provided at this university,” declared Agung.
The Muda Mendunia canteen was a follow up to embody results of Muhammadiyah Congress 47 in Makassar that the third principle is dealing with entrepreneurship. “The canteen is expected to serve certain food so that it can also possess an international atmosphere. We also wish that there would be Japanese day, Korean day, or Australian day so that the served food are related to the countries,” stated Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P.
Additionally, Gunawan handed over economic independence fund, a voucher of 150 thousand rupiahs, to a student representative. The student can use the voucher to purchase students’ products. Indeed, the voucher has an expired date.
