The Student Creativity Program (PKM) is a prestigious events for students as a forum to channel their potential. The event that has been going on for a long time was attended by various universities throughout Indonesia, including Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).
In 2020, UMY succeeded in passing 37 works to be funded in PKM 5 Bidang program. This is based on the announcement on the SIMBELMAWA website of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The 37 works came from 7 faculties, namely the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), Faculty of Engineering (FT), Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Language Education (FPB), as well as the Vocational Program.
Unlike the previous years, this year’s PKM implementation has been postponed and almost cancelled. This is because of the COVID-19 pandemic which changed the focus of the government budget and caused a high risk of viral transmission. This was expressed by Oky Wijaya, S.P., M.P., Head of the Division of Student Creativity and Reasoning Development (PKPM) of the UMY Student Development and Alumni Institute (LPKA).
According to Oky, there have been several changes to this year’s PKM implementation. “In terms of budget and technical implementation, we had to make several changes. If usually, students go directly to the community, this time PKM will be in the form of videos or animations made by students and then sent to the areas where they should serve,” he said when contacted Saturday (8/8).
All works that have been funded will then compete again to take part in PIMNAS (National Student Scientific Week) which will be held on the host campus, but this year it is likely that the implementation of PIMNAS will change. Even though the implementation of PKM this year is different from the previous year, Oky hopes that the students will still have the same enthusiasm. “To make the participants remain enthusiastic about participating in PKM even though the conditions are like this, the campus will always provide support and facilities for students,” he added.
