UMY Quarantines Students who Participated in Protests Opposing the Job Creation Bill

After participating in the rejection of the passage of the Job Creation Bill on Thursday (8/10) in front of the DIY DPRD building, a number of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta were quarantined. The self-quarantine policy for students participating in the protests rejecting the Omnibus Law that included the Job Creation Bill was carried out by UMY to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Deputy Incident Commander of the UMY Incident Command System (ICS), Sri Atmaja P Rosyidi, ST., MSc.Eng., Ph.D., PE stated that the quarantine process that will be carried out by these students will take 10 days. “We urge the students who took part in the protests of the Omnibus Law yesterday to carry out self-quarantine. They must undergo self-quarantine in the next 10 days, and observe any symptoms of COVID-19,” he said.

If any of the students detected symptoms of COVID-19 during the self-quarantine, they will immediately be handled by the UMY Covid-19 Task Force Health Team for further treatment. UMY will also provide PCR or Swab inspection facilities.

“That is the standard procedures that UMY already has implemented and it has already become the standard for the handling of the civitas whose examination results are declared reactive/positive. Therefore, we also collected data on protesters affiliated with UMY. We provide data on who took part in the action, including telephone numbers, boarding houses, as well as addresses and telephone numbers of the student’s parents. We are doing this as our effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 because in yesterday’s action activities they clearly did not do physical distancing, “Sri Atmaja added again.
