On Wednesday (1/8), UniRank™ (4 International Colleges & Universities) and Webometrics Ranking of World Universities revealed that ranks of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) lifted. UMY elevated from the 27th to 23rd rank at the UniRank™ and increased 7 ranks to rank 38 at the Webometrics. The ranks shows that UMY is one of the best universities in Indonesia.
The increasing rank becomes an additional value for credibility of UMY as an educational institution. “Many institutions assess quality of a higher education institution and to meet their scoring indicators are not easy. The result is a benchmark for many parties to see the educational institution. For instance, the rank is a consideration to apply at UMY,” declared Head of Quality Assurance Office (BPM) of UMY Dr. Suranto, M.Pol in an interview on Wednesday (1/8) at Laboratory of Governmental Studies at UMY.
Suranto told that preparation of UMY to fulfill scoring criteria determined by the UniRank™ and Webometrics was quite short. “Efforts to enhance UMY ranks in the international ranking institution is already included in our working system and as one of our strategic performance indicators (IKS). However, we prepared for the ranking in the middle of ranking assessment so that there are several indicator which we might be able to prepare them well,” he said.
Additionally, Suranto maintained that, even though attempts to comply with determined ranking indicators were a bit late, UMY achieved a satisfying rank. “Both ranking institutions used a website as the basis so that we need strategies to meet the required criteria such as increasing website access, links, and pages on an UMY website; enhancing Google Scholar citations; and improving journal ranking. We utilize indicators from Scimago,” he explained.
Suranto also asserted that the increasing ranks can boost internationalization programs of UMY so that our follow up plan is to intensively raise the ranks in the next period.
