UMY Seeks to Enhance Publication to Comply with a QS Star Ranking System

To embody a vision of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), to develop science for benefits of people, UMY seeks to achieve its target planned till 2020 to be an international reputable university. UMY has followed a QS Star university rating system and the university will try to comply a publication target category of the QS Star system.

Head of Planning and Development Board (BPP) of UMY Slamet Riyadi, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. stated that the ranking aims to evolve two internal aspects of UMY. “UMY’s publication development has been good, but we need make it better. We will increase quantity and quality of the publication through escalating the number of citations from the UMY’s publication,” told Slamet in an interview at Department of Information Technology of UMY on Saturday (2/6).

“We selected the QS Star system since it is popular and Indonesian government uses the system indicators as a reference. The ranking is essential for higher education as an acknowledgment and a link for students, parents, university members, and other universities to trust quality of UMY.

To reach the target, UMY applies a number of strategies such as enhancing quantity and quality of the publication. “For quantity, we encourage lecturers to write more qualified papers and collaborate with other authors. The strategy assists in accelerating UMY to be inputted in the QS Star ranking.” Explained Slamet.

“The strategy shows that UMY truly focuses on the significance of capacity development as a prominent university both in Indonesia and in the world,” declared Slamet.
