Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) was required by PP Muhammadiyah to send an assessment team for buildings and infrastructures as Lombok earthquake relief.

In an interview on Wednesday (15/8), head of the assessment team Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., P.E. informed that the team comprises of three experts and ten volunteers from Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, and Department of Mechanical Engineering trained by Muhamamdiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC). “The team will assess conditions of buildings and infrastructures, particularly public infrastructures, so that they can collect data, detect, and classify whether or not buildings can be used,” he explained.

“There is plate instability in Lombok; indeed, the earthquake occurred. Thus, the buildings may be instable even though they look intact. The team goes to Lombok on Monday (13/8) and will be there for 10 days. The team members are divided into two teams that one team is in Lombok Utara while the other is in Lombok Timur. They will map landslide points and building security, particularly school building,” asserted Sri.

Furthermore, another assessment team may be sent after considering findings of this team assessment. “I hope that results of the assessment team are as what we expected and they will be evaluated. If there are still a lot of things to do, we will send another team to follow up our assessment findings. This is a call for humanity and a contribution of UMY for this nation,” expressed Sri.
