Office of Research, Publication, and Community Service (LP3M) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) officially fielded 187 students to participate in Mubaligh Hijrah (a community service program) on Wednesday (24/4) at K.H. Mas Mansyur of UMY. The Mubaligh Hijrah is conducted from April 30 to May 30, coincided with the holy Ramadhan month. The community service program focuses on not only Ramadhan activities but also mosque-based community empowerment.
Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Dr. Sukamta, S.T., M.T. instructed all students to perform a data collection based on two aspects, namely religious and economic activities. The students were spread into 22 different locations in Kulonprogo, Sleman, Bantul, and Kulonprogo. The specification is needed to ease next groups so that they can keep up with the existing programs. He added, “The students should not merely concern with Ramadhan activities such as tarawih (a night prayer), recitation of holy Quran, and Quran education. Instead, the students should create monumental activities that they can identify through a mapping of Muslim population near mosques. They should collect a data on how many people in a family pray in the mosques. Besides, the students also have to gather data related to their economic conditions.”
Furthermore, Sukamta also explained that it is important to conduct a family mapping because it can be an affecting factor related to someone’s religious preference. He also detailed that if someone is currently in economic difficulties, students can assist their economic problems through Islamic values.

Nurul Satria, S.H., M.H. appreciated all students who erform Mubaligh Hijarah in the Ramadhan. He expressed, “Alhamdulillah UMY successfully sent 100 students in four regions of DIY.
