Indonesia is the country with the highest death toll of medical personnel in the world during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is due to the lack of personal protective equipment that should be used when handling COVID-19 patients, so the virus quickly spread to medical personnel who are at the forefront of COVID-19 treatment. The lack of medical personnel in Indonesia compared to COVID-19 patients also become a factor of medical personnel fatigue, which decreases their immune system and made them contract the virus easily.

“To that end, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) distributed medical tools in the form of face shields to the PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital, PKU Muhammadiyah City Hospital and PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital with a total of 150 each and for PKU Nanggulan, PKU Kotagede with 75 in each site. In addition to distributing face shields for medical staff, UMY also distributed 500 face shields to the Yogyakarta Special Region Regional Police (DIY), “said UMY Rector, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P, IPM during the symbolic handover to the two agencies on Wednesday (5/20) in front of the AR B Building of the UMY Central Campus.

This was the second time UMY have distributed face shields to medical staff who dedicated themselves to repair the very difficult situation the nation is currently undergoing. “UMY as an excellent and Islamic campus cannot just let this situation go by without taking any role in society. Indeed, this is the responsibility of the government, but the government cannot work alone, they need all people to work together to restore the nation’s condition to its original state. Now is not the time to blame each other but to take part in each other’s respective fields as best they can,” Gunawan added.

UMY believes that the wealth that has been given to others will not be reduced at all. Instead, it will continue to grow in accordance with God’s promise to His servants who lend their wealth in the way of Allah. (ads)
