Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) always seeks to cooperate with foreign universities. On Tuesday (10/4), UMY signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). The MoU and MoA signing was carried out by Rector of UMY Dr. Gunawan Budiyanto and Professor of Manufacturing Engineering of UTEM Prof. Dr. Abu Abdullah.
UTeM is one of the leading universities. Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of UMY Dr. Ir. Sukamta, M.T. IPM stated that the MoU and MoA were dealing with collaboration of Department of Engineering and Economics from both universities.
“The cooperation will focus on not only engineering, economics, and technology development but also humanities,” informed Sukamta.
UMY and UTeM parties also discussed the agreement in terms of student exchange programs, staff exchange programs, and research collaboration till 2023.
The student and exchange programs and research collaboration will also be conducted through online distance learning. Sukamta told that the collaboration concept is in accordance with a plan of UMY in 2020 that the university commences online distance learning with blended learning.
Additionally, a representative of UTeM also revealed that his party will cooperate with several faculties of UMY as Faculty of Engineering, Agriculture, Social and Political Science, Islamic Studies, Economics, Law, and Vocational School.
“We hope that the MoU and MoA signing enables UMY and UTeM to broaden their networking,” expected Sukamta.
