As an educational institution, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is responsible for conducting research valuable for community, and commits to resolving social issues from modern scientific perspectives.
At a research consolidation conducted by Office of Research, Publication, and Community Service of UMY on Saturday (26/1) at Grand Serela Hotel, Rector of UMY Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. stated that one of the university development strategies is doing innovative research. “Research by UMY lecturers should be highly informative and provide solutions to issues in their environment. We would like to support the lecturers by establishing an integrated research center comprising all laboratories of UMY which will ease information accessibility during a research process,” declared Gunawan.
He added that UMY will embolden lecturers to foster their competence through research and community service meeting community needs. “There are several excellent research topics as food, health, energy, information technology, politics and human rights. Meanwhile, the community service focuses on issues of disaster, women empowerment, agrarian, reproductive health, and economic development. Thus, the research will become a characteristic of UMY excellence,” Gunawan mentioned.
Additionally, the research consolidation aimed to produce a concept and determine UMY research quality. “To comply with a strategic performance index, lecturers entail quality standards to achieve their targets. Hence, it is made quality management encompassing planning, selection, monitoring, and evaluation of quality outcomes. That becomes a part of UMY roadmap for research and community service till 2040,” explained Division Head of Community Service and Services of the LP3M of UMY Dr. Adhianty Nurjanah, S.Sos., M.Si.
She asserted that outcomes of UMY lecturers should be beneficial for community and the educational institution. “Quality outcomes are soluble for community issues and fruitful for the institution by publishing it and registering for a patent of Intellectual Property Rights. We expect that the research ends as a report without any products,” she emphasized.
