Ramadan is a month that is full of blessings and needs to be filled with useful activities. But because of the difficult conditions because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, our movements are limited. Fortunately, that does not apply to Nuha Haifa Arifin, a student in Pharmacy class of 2019 Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta who took part in the Ramadhan Competition Week held at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto and successfully won titles in two branches at once.
Ramadhan Competition Week is a competition in the month of Ramadan which includes several branches of competition such as Poetry, Islamic Essay, Poster, Da’wah Video, and also the Pildacil competition. The competition was organized by the Committee of Amaliyah Ramadhan 1441 H Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) which has the aim to train the hard skills and soft skills of adolescents and students.
The competition that was won by the UMY student was the Islamic Essay competition and poster contest. Both of these competitions are competitions that can be participated by students throughout Indonesia. Interestingly, all types of competitions are held online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The participants who took part in the race had to compete from home and send their works via the e-mail address provided by the committee. For the poster contest, registration began on May 4, 2020, with a deadline on May 10, 2020,” said Nuha.
The winners of the poster contest are not only based on the judges’ decision, but also supported by the number of likes generated by the poster that has been posted on the UMP Instagram social media. On May 17, 2020, the winner of the poster competition was announced and Nuha succeeded in getting 2nd place. The UMY Pharmacy student also won 2nd place in the Islamic Essay competition, which was submitted on May 15, 2020, and announced on May 19, 2020.
“I never thought I could win in two competitions. At first, I also felt insecure and intentionally sent the two works near the deadline, but thanks to the guidance and lessons from my seniors, I sent them with a prayer, and thank God, thanks to the prayers and support from friends, both of them could be second place. “Added Nuha.
Nuha also hopes that she and her friends can maximize their potential by taking advantage of the broadest opportunities provided by the UMY campus to express themselves, as this is nothing but the realization of a campus that is Islamic-inspired and also progressive. In the current pandemic conditions, opportunities should not be missed by just staying silent and we must continue to show creativity. (Hbb)
