UMY to Host Free Flight League Session II

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta is assigned to be the host of another national event. Free Flight League Season II will be conducted on Thursday-Sunday (16-19/3) in an airport of Gading, Wonosari, Gunung Kidul. The league is an aero modelling whose participants are students of elementary schools, high schools, universities, and public.

Chief of the league Andi Wahyu, interviewed on Friday (10/3), stated that it is a main event of Indonesia Aero Sport Federation (FASI). “The host of Free Flight League Season I was Politeknik Negeri Bandung in February, while the second season is hosted by UMY and brings ‘UMY Glider Competition’ as the theme, Indeed, the competition is firstly organized at a Muhammdiyah-affiliated university” informed Andi, who is also a Mechanical Engineering student of UMY.

Andi informed that the competition comprises of three classes, namely out hand launched glider, F1H glider, and F1A glider.

“The league is dealing with aerospace that is enlivened by aerial demonstrations, skydiving, and trike flying. There will also be regional representatives and aero modelling clubs in Indonesia. The committee collaborates with FASI and the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU). The participants right now are counted 150 people,” mentioned Andi.

UMY is supported by TNI AU Commander of Adisucipto Yogyakarta, Marsekal Pertama TNI Novyan Samyoga. He entirely support the competition to enhance quality of young generation. “I expect that this competition can be an annual event so that there will more participants and they can be well-prepared for the competition. In fact, this is firstly held in Yogyakarta,” wished Novyan.
