Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) welcomed a visit from Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Al-Qudqwah Depok on Monday (23/4) at Building of A.R. Fachruddin A of UMY. The visit aimed to share UMY student activities.
Head of Public Relations and Protocol Office of UMY Hijriyah Oktaviani, S.IP., M.M. informed that UMY is accredited ‘A’ through an Online Accreditation Higher Education System (SAPTO). “Before following the online system, UMY proposed the accreditation offline consisting two stages, desk evaluation and accreditation visit. In the accreditation preparation, all university elements were engaged and they are expected to always enhance their quality and evaluate every policy at this university,” she told.
Besides, UMY students are required to participate in several activities. “On the orientation day, freshmen should join Islamic Teaching Orientation (OSDI). They, then, are obliged to take one-week Islamic training (KIAI) that they stay at a UMY residence. The training is expected to boost students’ Islamic understanding and improve their attitudes,” stated Hijriyah.
Meanwhile, a lecturer of Department of Islamic Studies of UMY Nurul Aisyah, S.Pd.I., M.Pd. revealed that students of the department is also required to join other programs in addition to the university programs. “The department programs are a teaching practicum, community service, and Mubaligh Hijrah (community service during Ramadhan). Through the programs, students are expected to mingle with and contribute to society. Indeed, our department develops students to give dakwah (preaching of Islam),” she mentioned.
Nurul also declared that her parties always seek to support UMY to be a reputable university. “We often send students to have a teaching practicum abroad. For instance, last year our students teach at Malaysian schools,” she said.
