It was an annual event of Festivice,” she stated.

In the two-day council, all participants were required to represent of each country they acted. Each council discussed distinctive topic as the mandate of United Nations. The Model United Nations attempted to encourage and tell students how to represent a country in council of United Nations so that their ability in negation and coping with global issues can be fostered. They were assessed on how they can coin win-win solution, unify all countries to agree with Draft Resolution as the result of the second day of the council, and lead as well as provide substantive and diplomatic debate. The participants fitting to the criteria will gain the Best Delegate (the winner), and UMY achieved two of the Best Delegates of 2 different councils.

Fitri who is also secretary of UMY Model United Nations Community conveyed that the community is trying to encourage students of all faculties to lean MUN since the beginning of their university enrollment. “MUN was not well known at UMY so that the establishment of UMY Model United Nations Community may provide students, particularly freshmen, understanding of MUN itself and how to have good council in United Nations,” she asserted.

Fitri inserted that UMY’s other delegates and she gained a lot of knowledge from MUN they joined. One of them was that they can recognize the council in United Nations. The other lesson was that they can broaden their knowledge of confronting global issues. In fact, MUN was for not only International Relations students but also other department students so that MUN’s participants’ point of views would vary based on the participants’ background. In addition, besides obtaining two of the best delegates at BIMUN Malang, the other UMY’s delegate Tri Azmi Iskandar, an International Relations student of batch 2014, achieved the Best Delegate of European Council at DCTM UGM.
