Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta bequeathed another doctorate in an open promotional session on Monday (5/8) at the Kasman Singodimejo building, UMY Central Campus. In the open session, promovendus Azis explained his dissertation, titled “The Concept of Intelligence in Al-Quran and it’s Relevance to the Development of Multiple Intelligence.”
In his dissertation, Azis explained that the aim of his study was to research the concept of intelligence in the Qur’an and its relevance to the development of multiple intelligence. “The background of this research is someone who has multiple intelligence is always guided by their learning process to be more successful by being smarter, wiser, fairer, and more devoted to God. The concept of intelligence becomes a focus in the Qur’an that studies three commentaries, which are the Al-Azhar, Al-Misbah, and At-Tahrir wa At-Tanwir commentaries. Any findings will become actual concepts regarding intelligence and be of use in real-life applications,” Azis clarified.
The results of his dissertation show that the concept of intelligence in the Qur’an is structured in a source that consists of the Lubb, which translates to the core of both the heart and the body. This is followed by the Fuad, which translates to the inner circle which represents intentions and the barrier between the physical and the non-physical. Then, the outermost circle is the Qalb, which represents spiritual truth and the ever-changing journey of Man.
Azis graduated from UMY’s Islamic Psychological Education Doctor’s Program as its 74th graduate with a cum laude honors. The procession of this promotional session was attended by Prof. Dr. Siswanto Masruri, M.A as a promotor, Dr. Khairuddin Bashori, M.Si as Co-promotor and a team of testers which consisted of Prof. Dr. Alef Theria Washim, M.A, Dr. Muhammad Azhar, M.ag, Dr. Abdul Majid, M.Ag and R.
